Dr James Mckenzie
James studied Physics and Computing and then went to Brunel University where he worked on optics for his Ph.D. He subsequently did post-doctoral work in the same field. He joined Bookham Technology when the company was in its very early stages and was involved, as a member of the management team, in Bookham's fast growth phase leading up to its IPO in 2000. During this period he was responsible for product engineering before moving on to become Director of Marketing.
In 2001 James joined Teem Photonics as VP of Business Development & Marketing developing the companies growth strategies, exiting the company following a successful fund raising round in 2003. Dr McKenzie's interests cover all aspects of the optical and high-technology world, especially the correct fit of technology to market needs. James joined Mesophotonics in March 2003 with a mission to accelerate the transition to a commercial business. He is a member of the Institute of Physics, and is a Chartered Engineer.
Nigel is cofounder of CFO Solutions Ltd, a company specialising in providing financial leadership to early stage companies. CFO Solutions Ltd is contracted to provide CFO services to Mesophotonics and was founded in 2003 by Nigel Souster, formally a partner at PWC with over 20 years financial management experience.
Dr Stephen Allen
VP Analytical Business
Steve has more than 20 years experience in the life sciences instrument industry, with considerable knowledge of the development and commercialisation of new products. Most recently he was Head of Mettler-Toledo's Automated Chemistry Division from 2000 to 2004, during which time he was responsible for the acquisition and integration of a series of companies focused on drug discovery tools.
Prior to this role, he was Vice President of European Operations for Perkin-Elmer Instruments. Between 1983 and 1998 Steve held a series of senior management positions in the UK and US for PE Corporation (now Applera Corp), including General Manager of a spectroscopy business and Vice President of Product Development. Stephen has a PhD in Chemistry from Nottingham University.
David joined Mesophotonics in Sept 05 to manage sales for the Klarite product line. Prior to joining Mesophotonics David was European Sales Manager for ABB Bomem, selling their line of FT-IR spectrometers into petrochemical refining, chemical, semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries.
David started his career in commercial spectroscopy in 1996 at Procal Analytics, joining ABB in 1998.
Dr Majd Zoorob
Research and IP Manager
Majd is one of the founders of Mesophotonics Ltd, and the intellectual property (IP) generated as part of Majd’s PhD and Martin Charlton’s PhD form the basis of Mesophotonics’ patent portfolio. Majd is responsible for directing the company’s research work and managing the company’s IP, as well as key theoretical and numerical modelling work.
Engineering and Production Manager
Karen joined the company in 2004 and fronts the product development and production teams at Mesophotonics. In 1998 Karen gained an MSc in Modern and Applied Optics at the University of Reading which included a placement at Sharp Labs Europe.
Karen then joined Bookham Technology where she managed several WDM telecom products from inception to production until leaving in 2003 to join Point Source. Karen then spent a year at Point Source developing laser-based instruments.
