"To build a major optical integrated circuit business using Photonic Crystal technology"

Mesophotonics Ltd. is a fabless integrated optical circuit company. The company’s Photonic Crystal technology and expertise will facilitate the development of integrated optics for multiple industries, based on established Silicon substrate technology, by:

• Creating new optoelectronic circuits from miniature photonic building blocks
• Leveraging the benefits of integrated electronics and optics on a single substrate
• Decreasing time to market by combining the team’s expertise in fabrication, modelling, design and characterisation.

Spun-out from Southampton University in 2001, Mesophotonics aims to commercialise more than 35 man-years’ research and associated Intellectual Property in nano-scale Photonic Crystals.

The company will design and sell integrated optical and opto-electronic circuits based on unique Photonic Crystal elements, addressing multiple markets at OEM level. The customer offering will include collaborative, product specific applications engineering, reducing the customers’ overhead in dealing with photonics. This will give customers lower risk and shorter time to market and open new market opportunities for them.

Mesophotonics will also license design libraries to manufacturers, allowing them to fabricate their own products incorporating the company’s Photonic Crystal components.
